foldout cover
· favorite labels
- Nature Sounds
- Def Jam
· biggest surprise
- Kanye West as an emcee
- Aesop Rock as a producer
- Gigan of Monsta Island Czars
"Krazy World" is one of the best songs we've heard this year and he kills it on Monsta Mixes and "Escape From Monsta Island"
- Youngbloods coming back halfway decently
· biggest disappointment
- Definitive Jux
did they release anything really hot this year. "Bazooka Tooth" was good, but not outstanding, "Ravipops" was not even as good as "Limelight" and S.A. Smash is not my thing
- G-Unit
the street mixtapes are way better. 50 is horrible now, too much of him singing and too little Lloyd Banks. too much generic bullshit
- The Genius / GZA
it was cool, but talk about high standards...nowhere near "Liquid Swords"
- Andre not rapping
do your thing 'Dre, but it's hard to forget this is one of the nicest ever to grip a mic.
· things that made us go hmm
- Juvenile back with Cash Money after everything
- Monsta Island Czars beefing with Doom
- the shelving of Rakim's album
- the wait on "Madvillain" and "MM Food"; shit or get off the pot, everybody downloaded it already
· things that made me cringe
- Cassidy: this is the guy who ripped Freeway, c'mon
- Tupac and Biggie rhyming together with Em's generic beat, I preferred the original which I already heard before they died
- 50 Cent non-stop singing and making Banks do love songs
- everybody saying rap is dead: Who the fuck are you!
Are movies dead because 90% suck, no, you just have to make an effort to find the good shit
- rappers starting labels and robbing their friends, who
they should be putting on, sad, sad, sad.
- 99% of Rap videos and BET: Sickening (I dont need to
say MTV cause I dont expect shit from them)
- S.A. Smash: probably fun guys to get trashed with but
I only like 1 song on the whole album. Maybe its just
me.
· what I'd like to see in 2004
- Ghostface's "Pretty Toney" project
- a new Cannibal Ox album
- on Backwoodz: new Billy Woods and a
"Copwatch" compilation w/DVD, Cannibal Ox single, Casino Earl aka Kill Gates Jr. album, and 007's remix album.
